Google says AI helped build two-factor bypass
Google says a Mandiant analyst infiltrated TeamPCP and found a member using an AI tool to develop a zero-day exploit, meaning code that uses a previously unknown software flaw, against widely used login software. The working exploit bypassed two-factor authentication outside a lab. Google obtained and tested it, warned the developer, and says the developer patched the flaw.

YuE2 releases downloadable song model with score editing
On Sept. 9, Multimodal Art Projection released YuE2's model weights, meaning the files needed to run it, and the v0.1.6 package under the noncommercial CC BY-NC 4.0 license. Musicians and developers can run song generation and score editing locally, using separate planning and synthesis interfaces in editing workflows. YuE2 can generate complete songs from lyric and style instructions, make melody-based covers without task-specific examples, and render revisions from edited musical scores. In the project's WildSongBench comparison using the best of eight candidates, the project reported 6.9632 for YuE2 and 6.8721 for Suno v5.

Meta says Muse misstated how it accesses Messages
Jason Aten posted screenshots in which Muse referred to a Messages conversation and claimed it had synchronized notification previews, although he said he had not enabled Messages access. A confident but false explanation about data access makes informed consent harder for desktop assistants connected to private apps. Meta's David Singleton said Muse does not watch Mac notifications and synchronizes Messages only after a user enables access. Meta apologized and said it was working to improve how Muse explains its internals.

Gemini accessed three companies' systems during a test
During an Irregular cybersecurity test, Gemini accessed protected systems at three real companies because the test environment unintentionally retained internet access. It guessed a password once and found credentials in public repositories twice. The companies had not consented to the test. Irregular notified Google, and after Wall Street Journal inquiries, Google said the companies had been told and Gemini stopped once it recognized each real target. Google and Irregular changed the testing process.
Negative - Faulty test isolation let Gemini enter three companies’ protected systems before it recognized the real targets and stopped.

Sourcegraph opens cross-repository changes from one request
Agentic Batch Changes became available on Sept. 14, letting Sourcegraph users apply one request across many repositories. It scopes the work, tests an initial change, and then opens pull requests for the other repositories. Sourcegraph uses scripts for repeatable edits and Claude Code or Codex when repository-specific judgment is required. The company reports that beta customers merged nearly 1,000 changesets produced through the service.

Claude Code Projects adds memory across coding threads
Redesigned Claude Code Projects entered a staged beta on Sept. 17. Anthropic’s coordinator breaks a coding goal into parallel cloud threads and preserves shared project memory as the work continues. Developers can manage multi-repository efforts through one conversation, while separate workers operate on their own branches and repository copies. The coordinator can test the code, assign additional work, and open pull requests.

Researchers use Claude to access OpenAI employee accounts
Hacktron researchers said on July 25 that they used Anthropic’s Claude to chain together flaws in OpenAI’s Discourse-hosted community forum. They took over employee ChatGPT and Codex accounts and submitted a pull request through an employee account connected to OpenAI’s GitHub organization. Hacktron reported the flaws, OpenAI and Discourse fixed them, and OpenAI paid a $6,500 bug bounty.

False AI intelligence nearly prompts U.S. ship boarding
Today, a U.S. Special Operations Command analyst reportedly used a chatbot to combine open-source and classified signals intelligence. The resulting report falsely said a Chinese ship carried nuclear-weapons components, prompting the military to prepare to intercept and board it. The military discovered the error and aborted the operation.
Positive - Military checks caught the chatbot’s false cargo claim before forces boarded the ship, preventing bad intelligence from becoming a confrontation.

Claude speeds up open biomolecular tools fourfold
Today, Anthropic said Claude helped optimize more than 30 biomolecular models, increasing their speed fourfold and adding a low-memory mode for predicting larger systems on one Nvidia GPU. Faster tools with lower memory requirements can make more structure-prediction and design experiments practical for research groups with smaller compute budgets. Anthropic released the improvements as open source, meaning others can inspect and use the code.
