Privacy Policy
The Threshold Report publishes thethreshold.report and a free newsletter. It is operated by Evoke Digital Media and Publishing, LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who handles it, and your choices. Privacy questions and requests: legal@thethreshold.report.
1. What we collect
- Newsletter. Your email address and first name, the date you subscribed, and which issues you were sent.
- Email engagement. Our email provider records whether an issue is opened and which links are clicked. We use this, in aggregate, to see what readers find useful. These signals are imperfect: mail privacy features and security scanners can trigger them.
- Advertising interest list. If you use the form on our Advertise page: your first name, position, company and email address.
- Questions you submit. The question, the name and location you choose to display with it, and your email address so we can tell you when it is answered.
- Alerts. The questions or topics you follow, so we can email you when they change.
- Messages. Whatever you include when you email us.
- Technical data. When you visit the site, our hosting provider processes your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
- Site analytics. Our hosting provider counts visits in aggregate (which pages are read and where visitors come from), without cookies and without tracking you across other sites.
2. How we use it
To send the newsletter and alerts you asked for and manage your subscription; to review and publish questions you submit (only the question and the name and location you chose are published, never your email); to email you once when advertising opens, if you joined that list; to answer messages; to understand, in aggregate, which content is useful; and to keep the site secure and meet legal obligations.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. Advertisers never receive subscriber lists or anyone's individual engagement data; we may share aggregate figures such as total subscribers or average open rate.
3. Who handles it for us
These providers process information on our behalf, for the purposes above, under their own privacy policies:
| Provider | What it does |
|---|---|
| Kit | Newsletter signup, delivery, alerts, open and click measurement. |
| Cloudflare | Hosts the site, protects it from attacks, counts visits in aggregate without cookies, runs the bot check on our forms, and forwards email sent to our addresses. |
| GitHub | Stores form submissions in a private repository. |
| Provides the "Add as a preferred source" button. Your browser connects to Google to load it. | |
| OpenAI, Anthropic | AI models that help us review and word questions you submit. They receive the question text, never your email address. |
We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect our rights, our readers or others, or as part of a sale or reorganization of the publication, in which case this policy continues to apply to it.
4. Cookies and browser storage
We use no advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not track you across other websites. The site stores one setting in your browser: whether you chose the light or dark theme. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies, and its bot check may read browser signals when you submit a form. Google may set or read cookies when its preferred-source button loads. Because we do not track visitors across sites, we treat every visitor the same whatever their browser's privacy signals.
5. How long we keep it
- Subscriber data: while you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we keep your address on a do-not-email list so you are not emailed again; if you have not resubscribed within six months, we delete it.
- Advertising interest list: until we send the one email announcing that advertising has opened, then deleted within 90 days unless you reply.
- Submitted questions: a published question stays on the Board as part of the public record; your email address is kept while you follow it.
- Messages: as long as needed to respond and keep reasonable records.
- Technical logs: according to our providers' standard periods.
6. Your choices and rights
Unsubscribe with the link at the bottom of any email. To see, correct, delete or get a copy of your information, or to object to how we use it, email legal@thethreshold.report. We reply within 30 days, or sooner where the law requires, and may ask you to confirm that you control the address. Depending on where you live (for example California, the European Union or the United Kingdom), you may have further rights, including to complain to your data protection authority. We will not treat you differently for using them.
For readers in the EU and UK: we rely on your consent for the newsletter and alerts (withdraw it any time by unsubscribing), and on our legitimate interests for security, aggregate measurement and answering messages.
7. Where it is processed
We and our providers process information in the United States and other countries. Where the law requires it, our providers use recognized safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, for international transfers.
8. Security
We use encrypted connections, restricted access and private storage. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed without authorization.
9. Children
The Threshold Report is not directed to children under 13 (under 16 in the EU and UK), and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
10. Changes
We will post any change here and update the date at the top. If a change is material, we will also announce it on the site or by email before it takes effect.
